Avatar is spoken about everywhere. It is nominated nine times for the Oscar 2010 and is very likely to receive several awards. Avatar is a 2009 US science fiction epic film written and directed by renowned film director James Cameron, with Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang playing the leading roles.
The term "avatar" is rooted in Indian mythology. It denotes "god's visit to Earth to fix sth that is broken". Being one of the three gods shielding creation, Vishnu visits Earth often. In Hindu mythology Vishnu is depicted dark-blue. James Cameron has also decided to make the aliens blue.
Set in the year 2154 on an alien moon called Pandora situated the Alpha Centauri star system, Avatar movie tells the timeless story of gluttony, immaturity and the ferocity that results from ignorance.
The plot of the story revolves around a soldier - Jack - who goes to Pandora the moon situated in the Alpha Centauri star system in order to help The Corporation that wants to mine and export unobtainium - a precious mineral. The Na'vi are the alien arboreal humonoid civilization living and thriving on Pandora. They are a part of a vast symbiotic living system including plants and animals which are connected by a biological communication network. The Corporation plans to mine the planet and the Na'vi fight against the invaders for their fatherland. The rapid expansion and growth of the mining colony threatens the existence of the local tribe.
Jack is taken in by the Na'vi and explores their habitat, culture and language. Natirii, the female Na'vi he meets, helps him through this journey.
Avatars are biological creations - a combination of alien and human DNA. They are not self-aware and are controlled by a human whose DNA they were made from. The soldier controls an avatar that is made from his brother's DNA.
AVATAR draws a rosy picture of an ideal world. The end of the movie is especially touching. The visual effects are breath-taking. Being a talented skillful film maker, Cameron presents one of the most carefully thought-out and consistent films. The movie is worth viewing.
